Automated toll system at Meghna, Gumti bridges
Aiming to reduce delays on toll roads, automated toll system have been set up at Meghna and Gumti bridges on Dhaka-Chattogram highway.
“The government has installed automatic toll machines on Meghna and Gumti bridges, which would help vehicles move faster,” Nazrul Islam, secretary to Road Transport and Highways Division, said after inaugurating the “Windshield Based First Track Electronic Toll Collection (ETC)” at Meghna Bridge toll plaza yesterday.
He said the new system will work initially on one lane, and number of lanes would be increased eventually. He urged owners and drivers to support this new system.
The secretary said the newly-constructed Meghna and Gumti bridges would open before Eid-ul-Fitr.
The toll system will work through setting up radio frequency identification (RFID) on a vehicle’s windshield, which would help collect toll from the user’s bank account.
Among others, Chief Engineer of Roads and Highways Department Ibne Alam Hasan, and Executive Director of Toll Management Firm of CNS Maj (retd) Ziaul Hasan Sarwar spoke.
Additional secretaries to Road Transport and Highways Division Mohammad Belayet Hossain and Shishir Kumar Roy, and BRTA Chairman Mashiur Rahman were also present.
