Arrest warrant against Tarique, two others
A Narayanganj court yesterday issued arrest warrants against BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and two other leaders in a defamation case filed for terming Ziaur Rahman “father of Bangladeshi Jatiyatabad”.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Milton Hossain of Narayanganj passed the order after Akram Hossain Badal, a member of central Awami League’s religious affairs sub-committee, filed the case on charges of seditious and defamatory comments.
The two other accused are: UK BNP unit’s President Shayesta Chowdhury Kuddus and its General Secretary Kayser M Ahmed.
According to the case statement, Tarique, elder son of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, at a programme in London recently made “defamatory” comments about Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the country’s constitution.
Tarique Rahman allegedly told the programme on August 19 that the way Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had become the prime minister of Bangladesh after coming back to the country in 1972 was illegal.
