AR Mallick’s 23rd death anniv today
Today is the 23rd death anniversary of Dr AR Mallick, an eminent educationist and the first technocrat finance minister of the country.
On the occasion, a discussion and milad mahfil were held at RKB Mallick School and College premises at his village home in Rajapur, Dhamrai.
Dr Mallick was professor of South Asian Regional Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, USA, in the early 1960s, and the founding vice-chancellor of Chittagong University (CU).
He was president of the Liberation Council of Intelligentsia, the first education secretary of Bangladesh, the first High Commissioner to India, and was elected chairman of Asian Development Bank.
His publications include, “British Policy and the Muslims in Bengal” and “Amar Jibon Kotha O Bangladesher Mukti Sangram”. Bangla Academy published “Dr AR Mallick Swarak Grantha”, comprising articles by renowned personalities from home and abroad along with commemorative photographs, and text of his speeches. The book is available at the Ekushey book fair.
He also served as the first Professor Emeritus at Jahangirnagar University (JU). “Prof Dr AR Mallick Lecture Hall” have been inaugurated at JU, Dhaka University and Rajshahi University. The administration building at CU has also been named after him.
