Abrar Rahat’s Death: Next hearing on March 25
A Dhaka court yesterday fixed March 25 for next hearing of a case filed against Prothom Alo Editor and Publisher Matiur Rahman over the death of ninth-grader Naimul Abrar Rahat.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim passed the order when the editor along with five of his lawyers -- including Ehsanul Haque Samaji -- was present.
Four other accused, now on bail, were also present in the court yesterday.
On February 17, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (in-charge) Md Kaisarul Islam granted him bail upon a bond of Tk 2,000 with two guarantors after Matiur surrendered before the court.
On January 20, the HC granted him bail for four weeks and directed him to appear before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka on completion of the bail period.
While granting the anticipatory bail to Matiur, the HC directed law enforcers not to harass or arrest him or any of five other accused until police report was filed or charges were framed in the case over the death of Abrar, who was a student of Dhaka Residential Model College.
The ninth-grader, was electrocuted during the anniversary celebration of a magazine of Prothom Alo on November 1 last year.
His father filed the case with the Fourth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka on November 6 for negligence over the death.
On January 16, a Dhaka court issued arrest warrants for Matiur and nine others.
