70 new DAGs appointed
The government has appointed 70 Supreme Court lawyers as new deputy attorney generals (DAG), for representing the state in cases before the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the Supreme Court.
Among them, 32 DAGs were reappointed to the post, 31 were appointed from lawyers, and seven assistant attorney general (AAG) were promoted to the post of DAG, a law ministry source said.
The ministry issued a gazette notification yesterday to this effect, which said their appointment will remain effective until further order.
On July 7, the government had appointed 105 SC lawyers as new AAGs.
Law Minister Anisul Huq on June 26 urged DAGs and AAGs who were appointed before 2017 to resign from office, for new appointments to those offices.
Later, 87 DAGs and AAGs submitted their resignation to the president through the attorney general and the law ministry, sources at the ministry said.
