Overcharging Bus Passengers during Eid

7 companies served notice by transport owners’ body

Dhaka Road Transport Owners’ Association has found proof of overcharging against seven bus companies during the Eid-ul-Azha rush.

The companies are: Lal-Sabuj Paribahan, Ekushe Paribahan Ltd, Himachal Express Ltd, Himachal Exclusive, Dhaka Express Ltd, Econo Service and Elish AC Paribahan.

Khondaker Enayet Ullah, general secretary of the association, on Saturday served the notice to the companies asking them to reply within three days, said the association’s Office Secretary Samdani Khondaker. “We will take the next course of action upon receiving their replies,” he said.

Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity yesterday at a press conference said anarchy over fare was a major issue for holidaymakers this time.

Action from owners’ association against any bus company is rare, said Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury, secretary general of the passenger welfare organisation.
