60 sent to jail for forging firearm licences
A Rangpur court yesterday sent 60 people to jail in two cases filed for forgery to obtain firearm licences.
Senior District and Sessions Judge Rasheda Sultana passed the order after rejecting their bail pleas, said Public Prosecutor Abdul Maleq.
Police said a section of officials led by Shamsul Islam, office assistant at Rangpur Deputy Commissioner’s office, allegedly issued and renewed licences against 400 firearms by tampering signature of the then DC between 2003 and 2015.
Police arrested Shamsul in 2016. Anti-Corruption Commission and the district administration later filed the cases over the matter.
