7 killed, 3 injured in road accidents
Seven people were killed and three others injured in road accidents during the last two days, our correspondents report.
In the capital’s Turag, Parvez Rob, 55, a singer and music composer by profession, was killed as a bus hit him around 11am, said police.
Parvez was trying to board a bus in front of East West Medical College Hospital. He was taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, they added.
Police seized the bus, but its driver managed to flee.
In Bogura, two trucks collided head-on in Sherpur early yesterday, leaving both drivers and one of theirhelpers dead.
Fire service said the accident occurred around 4:30am on Dhaka-Rangpur highway in front of Sherpur traffic police outpost.
Kamal Hossain, 33, a driver; and Md Rifat, 20, his helper, died on the spot, said Kazal Kumar Nandi, sub-inspector of Kunderhat highway police outpost.
Hafizul Islam, 38, was declared dead at Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, said police.
The injured -- Md Shahin, 35, and Mehedi Hasan, 20 -- were undergoing treatment at the hospital, said Roton Hossain, officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Station in Sherpur.
The identity of the other injured, helper of another truck, could not be known.
Meanwhile, another accident took place hours later on the same road just 100 metres away from the spot of the first accident, leaving a woman dead.
Amena Begum, 50, was crossing the road around 7:30am, said fire station officer Roton Hossain.
In Manikganj, an elderly man died as a bus ran him over on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Falasatia of Shivalaya yesterday.
Sub-Inspector Arifur Rahman of Barangail police outpost said Safiz Uddin, 70, died on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
In Gazipur, a police officer was killed as an unidentified vehicle ran over his motorbike in Kaliganj on Wednesday night.
Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, 49, was an inspector of CID, said Rupan Chandra Sarkar, sub-inspector of Ulukhola Police Camp.
