6 die in road crashes
Six people died in separate road accidents across the country over the last two days, report our correspondents and a news agency.
In Habiganj, three people were killed and 18 others were injured in an accident at Bahubal upazila yesterday morning, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent.
Mashuk Ali, officer-in-charge of Satgaon HIghway Police, said the accident took place after a passenger bus crashed into a roadside tree, lost control and flipped over in Kamaichhara area around 8:30am.
Helper Abu Sayed (30), Kamala Begum (35), and another unidentified woman died on the spot.
On information, law enforcers recovered the bodies and sent them to Habiganj Sadar Hospital.
The injured were taken to Bahubal Health Complex and the Sadar hospital, said Kamruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Bahubal Police Station.
In the capital, a woman was killed and her mother injured as a covered van crashed into their rickshaw at Tikatuli of Old Dhaka on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Sahara Talukder (23) daughter of Nazira Parvin (50), reports UNB.
Mohammad Manjurul Habib, sub-inspector of Wari Police Station, said the covered van hit the rickshaw on Toynbee Circular Road, leaving Sahara dead on the spot and her mother injured.
The body was handed over to the family members after an autopsy at Dhaka Medical College, he said.
In Savar, a man was killed in a road accident on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in Ashulia’s Unique area yesterday, reports our Savar correspondent.
The deceased was identified as Ujjal Hossain (32), a construction worker who lived in Azhulia’s Baipail area.
His co-worker Rezaul Karim told The Daily Star that he and Ujjal were on their way to work on a passenger bus.
The accident occurred when Ujjal was getting off the bus, he added.
Just as he stepped out, another passenger bus hit him from behind, killing him on the spot.
Police are trying to identify the bus and detain the driver, said Rafiqul Islam, sub-inspector of Ashulia Police Station.
Meanwhile in Thakurgaon, a bicyclist was killed and two others were injured in a road accident on Boda-Debiganj road in Boda upazila on Thursday night.
The victim was identified as Asharu Barman (40), reports our Thakurgaon correspondent.
The accident occurred when a picnic bus collided with a tractor while overtaking a trolley. This injured bus passenger Shimu (14) seriously. Meanwhile, the sand-laden trolley lost control and smashed a bicycle.
Bicyclist Asharu died on the spot while trolley driver Mostafa was critically injured, said Boda Police Station OC Abu Haydar Md Ashrafuzzaman.
On information, fire-fighters and police went to the spot and rescued injured Mostafa and Shimu. They were taken to Boda Upazila Health Complex.
Later, the duo were shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital after their condition deteriorated.
