5 students stabbed at Barishal univ
Five students of Barishal University (BU) yesterday suffered stab injuries in a clash between two rival groups following a reported feud over occupying seats in a residential hall.
The injured are Md Rafi of political science department; Jidan Hossain, Farhan Hossain and Ucchas of geology; and Hafijur Rahman of botany.
All of them are activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, however, none holds any post in the student organisation, said university sources.
They were admitted to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. Of them, condition of Rafi and Farhan was critical, as they sustained head injuries, said hospital sources.
There is an ongoing rivalry between two groups of students. Around 4:30pm near the university's main gate, the groups clashed to occupy seats at Bangabandhu Hall, which is located outside the main campus, said witnesses.
At one stage, they attacked each other with lethal weapons, leaving five students injured, they added.
Contacted, BU Proctor Subrata Kumar Das confirmed the incident and said the university authorities will investigate it and take legal actions against those involved in the clash.
Law enforcers have been deployed in the area to avoid further violence. No case was lodged in this connection till filing of this report around 8:30pm yesterday, the proctor added.
