5 killed, 5 injured in road crashes
Five people were killed five others injured in road accidents in three districts yesterday, according to reports from our correspondents.
In Chittagong, Sanjit Das, 19, a day labourer, was killed as a lorry hit him while he was working to build a road divider on a road in Sitakunda area, said police.
In another accident, Asma Akter, 32, died as an unknown vehicle knocked her down while she was crossing Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Mirsarai area.
In Panchagarh, Mirza Abul Kalam Dulal, 65, former commander of the district unit of Muktijoddha Sangsad, was killed and two other freedom fighters and a microbus driver were injured as the vehicle and a truck collided head-on on Panchagarh-Debiganj highway in Bypass area of Boda upazila.
The two freedom fighters -- Alauddin Prodhan, 64, and Owayesul Kuraishi, 67 -- were undergoing treatment at Panchagarh Sadar Hospital and the driver at Boda Upazila Health Complex, said police.
In Feni, Farhadur Reza Chowdhury alias Mukut, 35, and his brother-in-law Sayem, 13, were killed and two others injured as a car skidded off a road after colliding with a van on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Koska area of Sadar upazila.
Fatematuz Zohra, 26, wife of Mukut, was admitted to Feni Sadar Hospital while car driver Gias Uddin, 35, to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
