48 boys sent to correction centre
A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-2) yesterday sent 48 boys to the Juvenile Correction Centre in Tongi for six months each for their alleged involvement in various crimes.
The boys -- aged between 10 to 18 -- were arrested from Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar, Farmgate, Asad Gate, Shishumela, Rayerbazar and Mohammadpur areas on Wednesday, Rab Executive Magistrate Sarwoer Alam told The Daily Star.
He said the boys were involved in stalking, extortion, mugging and drugs-related crimes.
Rab-2 Assistant Director ASP Shahidul Islam said the boys were able to escape arrest due to their age, though they had been involved with crimes for last few years.
“But this time, we have taken action and hope that they will return to normal life soon,” he added.
