Four JCD activists hurt in attack at DU
Four Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activists were injured in an attack allegedly by Bangladesh Chhatra League and Muktijuddho Mancha activists at Dhaka University yesterday.
The incident took place near Madhur Canteen around noon.
The injured -- Mamun Khan, Shahjahan Shaon, Tarek Hasan Mamun and Nayeem Hasan -- are former DU students, JCD leader Mansura Alam told The Daily Star.
They were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Mansura, who was JCD vice president candidate of Shamsunnahar Hall union during the recent Ducsu polls.
Mansura also alleged that Muktijuddho Mancha President Aminul Islam Bulbul and General Secretary Al Mamun, along with several BCL activists carried out the attack, after holding a press conference inside Madhur Canteen.
Mansura Alam said she along with other JCD activists was attempting to go to the canteen.
Aminul is also vice president of Chhatra League and Mamun former deputy Liberation War and research affairs secretary of BCL central committee, BCL sources said.
When asked about the attack, Mamun said general students dragged the JCD activists out of the campus as they demeaned the country’s Liberation War. They have no right to exercise politics at DU, he said.
“They [JCD] activists wanted to create untoward situation there,” he claimed.
Muktijuddho Mancha organised the press conference protesting a Facebook post by JCD General Secretary of DU unit Iqbal Hossain Shyamol. The platform alleged that the post went against Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Liberation War.
Speakers at the press conference also urged the government to ban BNP and Jamaat, and their student organisations -- JCD and Shibir.
Dhaka University Proctor AKM Golam Rabbani told journalists that those who were attacked are outsiders. “The university is concerned about its current students, not outsider JCD activists,” he said.
“They [JCD] are trying to destabilise the campus instead of carrying out activities for students’ welfare,” he added.
