4 of a family killed in Gazipur gas explosion

Four members of a family including two minors were killed in an explosion caused by gas line leak in Gazipur city last night, police said.

The deceased were identified as Shah Alam, 38, quality inspector of Renaissance Garments, his wife Monira Begum, 30, sewing operator of the same company, their son Bayezid, 8, and daughter Fatema, 4, our Gazipur correspondent reports quoting KM Kauser Chowdhuri, officer-in-charge (OC) of Basan Police Station under Gazipur Metropolitan Police.

Hailing from Bauphal upazila of Patuakhali, the family had been living in a rented house in Islampur Sharif market area, the OC said.

Senior Station Officer of Joydebpur Fire Service Md Zakir Hossain said the explosion took place around 9:30pm when Monira was cooking at the kitchen.

The family members were killed due to fire and smoke triggered by the explosion.
