At least three people were killed and six others injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Chandina upazila yesterday.
The dead are Dubai expatriate Abdul Mannan, 40, his elder brother Abul Kashem, 45, and Rakib Hossain, 20, police said.
The accident took place around 4:30pm when a Cumilla-bound microbus rear-ended a delivery van that was parked on the highway in Nuritola area, said Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Eliotganj Highway Police outpost.
The microbus driver, Nur Hossain Parvez, while undergoing treatment at Chandina Health Complex, told reporters that he went to Dhaka airport and picked up Mannan earlier in the morning. Mannan and his family members were returning to Cumilla in the microbus.
“I lost control over the steering after I hit the covered van [parked] on the left side...,” he said.
Mannan's wife Hasina Begum, 34, their three daughters -- Hafsa, Takia and Tanha -- and their relative Slahuddin are also receiving treatment at the hospital.
