250 illegal structures demolished in Dhamrai

The Roads and Highways Department (RHD) in a drive yesterday knocked down over 250 illegal structures on both sides of Dhamrai-Kaliakoir road in Angoirmore area of Dhamrai.

Deputy Secretary Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Faruki, also executive magistrate and estate and law officer of RHD, Dhaka, led the drive in cooperation with local administration and police. Local members of “Nirapad Sarak Chai”, a road safety organisation, assisted the drive.

Faruki said illegal structures were impeding traffic for a long time and that is why the drive was conducted. The drive started at 9:30am and continued till 4pm, he added.

On Wednesday, RHD started their drive and demolished around 400 illegal structures on both sides of Dhaka-Aricha highway at Nayarhat and Islampur areas of Savar.

So far, they have recovered around 10 acres of RHD land from grabbers in the two-day drive, said Faruki, adding that all illegal structures on RHD land will be demolished.
