24kg gold recovered from plane
Customs intelligence yesterday seized 24 gold bars weighing 24 kilogrammes from an aircraft of Biman Bangladesh Airlines at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
A team of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) conducted a drive at flight BG-85 at the airport around 7:45pm, said Shahidul Islam, director general of CIID.
After searching the plane, the team recovered 24 gold bars -- each weighing one kg -- wrapped in black scotch tape, were hidden inside the handles of four seats of business class in the aircraft, the customs official said.
Market price of the gold is estimated at around Tk 17 crore, Shahidul added.
CIID officials were yet to know who were carrying the gold bars.
