Police yesterday arrested two persons allegedly involved in attacking a student of Rajshahi University on Friday evening.
The arrestees are -- Anik Mahmud Bani, an expelled Chhatra League leader of RU unit; and Mahfuzur Rahman Mithu, a BCL activist of Rajshahi College. They were arrested from Binodpur area, said Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station.
Firoz Anam, a first-year student of economics, was stabbed by some unknown persons on the campus, while he and his friend were standing in front of a photocopy store near the stadium.
They tried to snatch the duo’s money and phones. Failing to do so, they stabbed Firoz and ran away. Firoz was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Firoz filed an attempted murder case against some unknown persons with the police station, said the OC. He said police detained three more youths for quizzing.
Protesting the stabbing incident, RU students had demonstrated on the campus for two consecutive days. They withdrew the movement on Saturday, upon assurance from the university authorities of meeting their demand for a safe campus.
