16,000 yaba pills seized

Detectives of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) yesterday seized 16,000 yaba pills from a truck and arrested its driver and helper in Firingi Bazar area.

The arrestees are Abdul Salam, 42, and Md Jubayer Hossen, 20, said police. Both are from Cox's Bazar. Salam is the truck's driver while Jubayer his helper.

Tipped-off, a DB team intercepted the Chattogram-bound truck around 1:30pm and arrested the duo, said Assistant Commissioner Jahangir Alam of DB. They were delivering pickles from Cox's Bazar to stores in Khatunganj, he said.

The pills were found inside a secret compartment underneath the truck, he added. The two were handed over to Kotwali Police Station and a case was filed.
