2 ‘Huji militants’ among 14 ‘robbers’ held in Dhaka
Detective Branch of police claims to have detained 14 suspected robbers including two alleged militants of banned militant outfit ‘Huji’ from Dhaka.
Among the 12, the two suspected Huji militants were identified as Hafez alias Khalid alias Ibrahim Gazi and Mamunur Rashid Bacchu, Addition Commissioner of Detective Branch of police Abdul Baten said at a press briefing at Dhaka Metropolitan Police media centre.
The fourteen arrestees were involved in robberies in a bid to collect funds for the banned militant outfit Harkatul Jihad (Huji), Baten said.
So far, they have committed at least nine robberies, from which they collected around Tk 5 crore for their organization, the official said.
They were planning to use the money to free a death row convict, Ujjal, who is a member of the militant outfit. He was sentenced to death in the August 21 grenade attack case, he said at the briefing.
They also used almost 30 percent of the funds collected from their robbery for their militant outfit.
The 12 were arrested from Jatrabari last night. Acting on their information the two “Huji militants” were held from Rampura today.
