111 sued over BCL-Shibir clash in Ctg
Some 111 persons, including 31 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its students’ wing Islami Chhatra Shibir were sued over Saturday’s clash between Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists and Shibir men during the namaaz-e-Janaja of a central Jamaat leader, who was also the father-in-law of ruling party lawmaker from Chattogram-15 Abu Reja Muhammad Nezamuddin Nadvi.
Shafayat Hossen Saju, a BCL activist, filed the case mentioning the names of 31 Jamaat-Shibir men and 80 to 90 unnamed with Chawakbazar police station on Saturday night, said Officer-in-Charge Nizam Uddin.
Police held ANM Jubayer, Law and Trust affair secretary of Chattogram Government College unit Chhatra Shibir, and an accused in the case, from Chawkbazar area.
On Friday, Muminul Haque Chowdhury, central executive member of Jamaat, died at a port city hospital. His namaz-e-janaza was held at Chattogram College field (popularly known as Parade Maidan) after Zuhr prayers on Saturday, attended by some 3,000 Jamaat-Shibir men. Seeing the activists of pro-Jamaat student group on college premises, BCL activists became aggravated, triggering a clash.
