11,000 yaba pills seized in Ctg, Narsingdi
Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) and Detective Branch (DB) of police in separate drives in the last two days in Chittagong city and Narsingdi seized 10,730 yaba pills and arrested five people.
Yesterday, the DNC seized 6,800 yaba and arrested two from Station Road area of the port city, reports our staff correspondent.
Shamim Ahmed, deputy director of DNC in Chittagong, said they confiscated the contraband items concealed in kitchen utensils after searching belongings of two bus passengers, who introduced themselves as cooks.
DNC officials intercepted and searched the bus on way to Dhaka from Cox's Bazar on specific information, he said.
The arrestees -- Mohammad Chanchal, 32, and Mohammad Asmaul, 30, both from Louhajang in Munshiganj -- said they were transporting the drugs from Teknaf to Dhaka, Shamim added.
On Thursday night, DB of Narsingdi police seized 3,930 yaba tablets and arrested three drug peddlers after conducting raids in different areas of Madhabdi upazila, reports our Brahmanbaria correspondent.
Sub-Inspector Abdul Gaffar of DB police said tip-offs prompted them to conduct the raids that resulted in recovery of the drugs and arrests of the peddlers -- Sohel Sarwar, 33, from Kushtia; Rubel Mia, 28, from Cox's Bazar; and Rahul Mia, 19, from Narayanganj. A case was filed against the three, he added.
