10-yr-old killed in M’singh road crash

A 10-year-old was killed in a road crash at Traikandi Bridge area on Mymensingh-Dhobaura road in Dhobaura upazila of Mymensingh on Friday evening.
The victim, Shamim Mia, son of rickshaw-puller Farid Mia, was a second grader at Taraikandi Govt Primary School, reports our Mymensingh correspondent.
Shamim died after a covered van hit him while he was crossing the road in front of his grandfather’s grocery shop to reach home, quoting locals, officer-in-charge of Dhobaura Police Station Ali Ahmed Mollah said. He died on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for autopsy. The body was later handed over to family members.
Police arrested the driver, Mamun (33), and took him in for interrogation.
He was later produced before a Mymensingh court yesterday that sent him to jail, said the OC.
In Pabna, a man and his son-in-law were killed in a road crash at Jalaler Dhal area in Atghoria upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased, Mahatab Uddin Sardar (70) and his son-in-law Abul Bashar (45) were coming to Pabna to see a patient.
The accident took place when a speeding Nasiman hit a battery-run auto-rickshaw, killing Mahatab on the spot and leaving several others injured.
Abul Basar succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital, OC of Atghoria Police Station Md Rakibul Islam told our Pabna correspondent.
Police caught the Nasiman but its driver managed to flee the scene, added the OC.
Meanwhile in Khulna, a fish trader was killed when a stationary truck was hit by another truck on Koyra-Paikgacha road on Friday morning.
The deceased is Mofizul Talafdar (45), reported UNB.
The accident took place when a truck parked in front of the under-construction Agriculture College was hit by a stone-laden truck from behind around 7 am. Mofizul was in the parked truck.
Police seized the truck but its driver and his assistant fled the scene, said Paikgacha police.
