At least 10 people were killed in road accidents across the country in the last two days.
In Tangail, Arman Raihan (24), a police constable, was killed after a bus ran him over yesterday morning.
Mir Mosharaf Hossain, officer-in-charge of Tangail Sadar Police Station, said a school bus ran over Arman near Kumudini College Gate around 8:30am. He was rushed to Tangail General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Police seized the bus and detained its driver.
The incident came within a day of the death of another constable, Saidul Islam (42). A truck ran him over in Rabna Bypass area on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Abdul Latif (54), a former school teacher, was killed after a truck hit him in Karatipara Bypass area of Basail upazila on Tuesday night.
Family sources said the accident took place when he was crossing the busy highway around 9:30pm, leaving him seriously injured.
He was taken to Kumudini Hospital in Mirzapur, where doctors pronounced him dead.
In Chattogram, three people were killed after a pick-up van collided with a truck in Banshbaria area of Sitakunda upazila early yesterday.
The deceased are Nurul Amin (55), Fazlu Bepari (60), and Md Hannan (42), said police.
The accident occurred around 4am, killing passengers of the van. On information, police recovered the body. They seized the vehicles but the drivers managed to flee, police said.
A case was filed with Sitakunda Police Station.
In Panchagarh Sadar upazila, Mokhlesur Rahman (45) was killed and his son injured when a tractor hit their bicycle at Tunirhat village yesterday. Police said the accident took place around 5:15pm, when Mokhlesur and his son Jewel were returning home after shopping for the wedding of a family member.
On information, firefighters went to the spot and took Jewel and his father’s body to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital.
Later, Jewel was transferred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) as his condition deteriorated.
In Dinajpur, truck driver Faruk Hossain (45) was killed after two trucks collided on Bhadgaon Bridge in Kaharol upazila yesterday, said police.
In Chapainawabganj, two people were killed when a truck hit a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Sonabor area of Gomastapur yesterday evening.
The deceased are Jahanara Begum (40) and Arshad Ali (35).
Police said the accident left Jahanara dead and Arshad injured.
Locals rushed Arshad to the upazila health complex. As his condition deteriorated, he was referred to RMCH. He died on the way.
