New CJ to meet HC judges tomorrow

Newly appointed Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain has convened a full court meeting with the High Court judges tomorrow to take decisions on few issues including promotion of 141 additional district judges to the post of district judges.

Acting Registrar General of the Supreme Court Md Zakir Hossain said the meeting will be held at Administration Building-4 of the SC at 3:30pm.

The CJ will preside over the meeting to be attended by the judges of the High Court Division of the SC.

The meeting may take a decision on promotion of 141 additional district judges to the post of district judges, he said.

The law ministry sent a proposal for their promotion around two years back to the SC for its approval.

Zakir Hossain, however, could not say why the proposal was not approved during the period.
