A Dhaka court today placed Maulana Abul Kashem, the alleged spiritual leader of “Neo JMB”, on a five-day remand in a case filed over the raid in Dhaka’s Kalyanpur area last year.

Metropolitan Magistrate Waez Kuruni Khan Chowdhury passed the order after Inspector Jahangir Alam of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit produced him before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.

Abul Kashem, also known as “Shaykh” and “Boro Hujur” among his followers, was remanded for 10 days on March 3, a day after he was detained from the capital's Senpara Parbata area.

While conducting a raid at Kalyanpur on July 26 last year, police stumbled across a militant hideout in a building and killed nine suspected militants after a fierce gun battle.
