Being informed by locals, police recovered the decomposed body from the river at Noyagaon near Dr Iajuddin College. Sajib's wife identified the body which later was sent to Munshiganj General Hospital morgue, said his brother Radin Ahmed.
Radin said the death remained a mystery, and it was very unlikely that his brother would commit suicide.
No injury mark was found in the body, said police.
Awrangjeb, 48, a Dhaka Medical College Hospital correspondent of several print and electronic media, was seen in the hospital area till 8:30am on Sunday. Later, a passenger from a Chandpur-bound launch phoned another DMCH correspondent using Sajib's mobile phone and informed that Sajib had jumped into the river from the launch in Munshiganj leaving his money, ID cards, and two cell phones in the vessel.
