Minorities safe with AL in power: Nasim
Awami League presidium member and Health Minister Mohammed Nasim yesterday said people of the minority communities remain safe when Awami League is in power.
He was speaking at the first session of a biennial conference of Mahanagar Sarbajanin Puja Committee at Dhakeswari National Temple in Dhaka.
Food Minister Qamrul Islam, lawmakers Mohammad Selim and Pankaj Debnath, Dhaka City (south) AL acting president Dr Dilip Roy and puja committee General Secretary Shyamal Kumar Roy spoke at the event, with committee president DN Chattarjee in the chair.
Indian Deputy High Commissioner Dr Adarsh Swaika inaugurated the conference.
Nasim said BNP-Jamaat carried out torture and repression on minorities after assuming power in 2001. People do not want to witness such violence anymore, he added.
An 81-member new committee was formed with Shailendra Nath Majumder and Kishore Ranjan Mandal elected president and general secretary respectively, said a press release.
