Transport strike in Ctg on Thursday
Chittagong City Transport Owners' Federation and Workers' Union yesterday announced a dawn-to-dusk mass transport strike for Thursday to press home their 10-point demand, including an end to "harassment" of drivers by police.
Buses, minibuses, human haulers, CNG-run auto-rickshaws and auto-tempos will not ply on the days, said leaders of the organisations at a press conference at a city hotel.
Golam Rasul Babul, member secretary of Chittagong City Transport Owners' Association, alleged that police harass drivers and helpers to "check documents" and seize vehicles indiscriminately.
He demanded a stop to this "harassment".
Some of the other demands include an end to indiscriminate requisition of vehicles and removal of hawkers from the city's busy point to ease traffic.
