Vendor murdered by son
A roadside sherbet vendor was strangulated to death, allegedly by family members, in the capital's Mugda area yesterday.
Victim Rafiqul Islam, 48, from Khulna, used to live in a rented house in Dhaka's Maniknagar area.
Police arrested five including Rafiq's wife Nasima Akter Bithi, son Md Rabby, and Rabbi's friends Rayhan Gazi, Juwel Akther Babu and Md Masud for their involvement in the murder, said Enamul Haque, officer-in-charge of Mugda Police Station.
During primary interrogation, the arrestees admitted their involvement in killing Rafiqul over family conflict, OC Enamul told The Daily Star.
Police said Rafiqul was a drug addict, and so is his son Rabby. Rabby was even sent to jail in a murder case in 2015 but he was out on bail last year.
Rabby was unemployed, which often caused clash between the father and the son, since Rafiqul was the only earning member in the family. As Bithi often took Rabby's side during fights, Rafiqul used to kick both out of their home, said police.
The mother and son hatched the murder plan; Rabby along with his three friends executed the plan, said OC Enamul.
After the murder, they locked their home and went into hiding. Police, upon receiving information from a neighbour, recovered Rafiq's body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College morgue for an autopsy.
Police later conducted a drive and arrested the five, said OC Enamul.
Victim's cousin Mostofa Ahmed filed a murder case with the police station, accusing the five.
