Man killed over land in Barisal

A union level leader of Swechchhasebak League was hacked to death allegedly by his nephew over land dispute in Laskarpur village of Mehendiganj upazila in Barisal yesterday morning, said police.

Idris Majhi, 31, was joint secretary of Char Ekkoria union unit of the pro-Awami League organisation, said Ramkrishna Devnath, convener of the upazila unit of the group.

Ujjal Kumar Dey, officer-in-charge of Mehendiganj Police Station, said Iqbal Haoladar, son of Rashid Haoladar and nephew of Idris, who might have killed his uncle in his house, was on the run.

The body was sent to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
