LGRD minister blames dev work for waterlogging
LGRD Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain yesterday in parliament blamed the ongoing city development work for waterlogging in Dhaka.
“The ongoing development work in the city is equally responsible, if not more, for waterlogging along with torrential rains,” he said while replying to MPs.
He also assured that there will be no more waterlogging in Dhaka in the next one or two years. He informed the house that the government has taken a project worth Tk 1,500 crore to recover the city's 33 canals paving the way to solve this problem.
Last year when it rained in Dhaka, city dwellers had to suffer for three hours in waterlogging, which has now reduced to two hours this year, he said. Earlier, opposition Jatiya Party lawmakers criticised the minister for the waterlogging problem.
