Level playing field not created ahead of Rangpur city polls: BNP
Alleging that a level playing field was not created ahead of the Rangpur City Corporation election, BNP yesterday demanded deployment of army to this effect.
“The Awami League-nominated candidate is violating the electoral code, the Election Commission is not taking any action,” alleged Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, senior joint secretary general of BNP.
“But BNP-nominated candidate has been warned by Election Commission repeatedly,” he said.
Addressing a press briefing at party's Nayapaltan headquarters, the BNP leader said, “We think that a level playing field for all the candidates is yet to be created. Election Commission is yet to create a congenial atmosphere for holding a free, fair and acceptable election.”
Rizvi alleged that the ruling party people are trying to intimidate voters and harass the BNP candidates.
He demanded deployment of army with magistracy power during Rangpur city polls.
