The marginalised people sometimes lose everything after land acquisition for specialised zone, said speakers at a seminar yesterday.

They also called for changes in law so that the marginalised get compensation on the basis of their possessory or occupancy rights. The Association for Land Reform and Development (ALRD), organised the seminar at the capital's Jatiya Press Club where economist-researcher Dr Swapan Adnan presented his research paper titled “Land Grabs in Bangladesh: Diversity of Objectives and Mechanisms”.

Economist Prof MM Akash, former senior research fellow of Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) Dr Bimol Kumar Saha and ALRD Executive Director Shamsul Huda spoke at the programme presided over by Nijera Kori Coordinator Khushi Kabir.
