Killed for mangoes!
A teenage boy was stabbed to death by another teenager following a feud over green mangoes in the capital’s Jatrabari area on Thursday evening.
Afsar Uddin Sihab, 15, succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital yesterday.
Police arrested the other teenager, Hridoy, 15, in connection with the killing.
Anisur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Jatrabari Police Station, said Hridoy confessed to the crime.
They recovered the knife used in the murder, said the OC.
Police and locals said Sihab along with several of his friends went to bathe in a pond behind Dhalpur Community Centre on Wednesday.
At that time, one of his friends Imran plucked several green mangoes from a nearby tree.
Then one Jewel and Hridoy of the area demanded some mangoes from Imran. But, he refused to give, triggering a brawl. Then locals settled the issue.
On Thursday evening, when Sihab and his friends went to the area to play cricket, Hridoy and is associate chased them.
Hridoy was able to catch Sihab and stabbed him with a knife.
They are trying to arrest Hridoy’s associate, said OC Anisur.
Sihab was the second among three siblings. His father Saju Miah is a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver by profession.
