Kidnapped boy found buried in Kushtia
A boy was found buried at Chitholia village in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia yesterday, 16 days after he had been kidnapped, said police.
On a tip off, a team from Mirpur Police Station exhumed the body of Dev Dutt, 9, from a place next to the house of one of his neighbours.
On June 9, two people on a motorcycle picked up the boy from the village while he was going to his private tutor, said police.
Later, the abductors demanded Tk 50 lakh over the phone for his release, said the victim's family.
They wanted the money in two hours, said Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station. But, the family could not reach the unknown caller later, he added.
Police suspect that Dev Dutt was strangled two days after he had been kidnapped.
Dev was a class III student of Chitholia primary school. His father Pabitra Dutt is an assistant teacher of Boria High School in Kushtia Sadar upazila. He is also joint secretary of the upazila unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad.
