'Jamaat man' killed in Ctg 'gunfight' with cops
An activist of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed in a gunfight with police in Satkania upazila of Chittagong yesterday morning, claimed police.
Police claimed the deceased Abul Boshor alias Vodaiya, 45, hailing from Lotabir Bazar village, was a “Jamaat cadre”, and an accused in at least 25 cases.
Tipped-off, a police team went to recover stashed arms from Eochia union of Satkania around 6:00am, said Farid Uddin Khandkar, officer-in-charge of Satkania Police Station.
When they reached Chhankhola, a group of miscreants opened fire forcing the law-enforcers to retaliate. Abdul was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot, while his cohorts managed to flee, the OC said.
Police recovered two pipe guns and a light gun from the spot. Eight police personnel were hurt in the standoff, who received primary treatments, the official claimed.
