'I want justice'
Demanding capital punishment for the culprits behind the killing of North South University student Saidur Rahman Payel, people from all walks of life formed a human chain in front of a counter of Hanif Paribahan in Garibullah Shah area of port city around 11:00am yesterday.
Payel was found dead in Munshiganj on July 23, after he was thrown into a canal by employees of a Hanif Paribahan bus after being injured trying to board the bus after getting off on the highway.
“I want justice for my son,” said Golam Maola, Payel's father.
The speakers also criticised Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan for his comment on Sunday's accident that claimed two young lives, students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College in Dhaka, according to our Chittagong correspondent
AKM Belayet Hossain, an adviser to Mohanagar Awami League and president of Sandwip Association, said “The minister should apologise for his remark.”
Aminul Hoque Babu, a representative of Bangladesh Human Rights Commission, also spoke.
Later, a procession was brought out.
Meanwhile, students of Jahangirnagar University yesterday formed a human chain on their campus seeking justice for Payel and demanding road safety, reports our JU correspondent.
The students also criticised the shipping minister for his comment.
