‘Fuel from polythene’ project starts in N’ganj
A project to extract diesel and octane from waste plastic and polythene was inaugurated in Narayanganj yesterday.
It is an initiative of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC), which aims to produce fuel by burning 500 kilogrammes of polythene every day.
Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy inaugurated the project at organic fertiliser production centre at Panchabati.
Ivy said, “Polythene waste was hard to manage. Our drains were clogging with it. Now we finally have a way to utilise polythene.”
Diesel from the plant will be used for NCC vehicles. The plant will also produce octane and fuel gas.
