HC orders demolition within two months

The High Court yesterday directed the authorities concerned to demolish within two months an illegal building built on Laxmipur District Judge Court premises.

While delivering verdict on a petition, the HC said the chief executive engineers of Laxmipur and Comilla districts would take necessary steps for demolishing the building with the assistance of the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police of Laxmipur and leaders of Laxmipur bar association.

The HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath issued the directives after a high-powered committee led by Supreme Court's Registrar General Syed Aminul Islam submitted a probe report before it saying that Laxmipur bar association was illegally constructing the building without taking permission from authorities concerned, said petitioner's counsel Manzill Murshid.

The chief executive engineers have been asked to submit a report to HC by July 17 in this regard, added Murshid.
