Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday reiterated that the BNP-Jamaat-e-Islami nexus was committing secret killings failing to topple the government.
“The BNP-Jamaat clique does not want development of the people...they cannot give anything except burning people to death and destruction...they have chosen the path of killing teachers and common people...selectively,” she added.
She was addressing a function the inauguration of Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Eye Hospital and Training Institute, the newly-constructed Chapail Bridge over Madhumati River, Tungipara Head Post Office, Gopalganj District Shishu Academy Complex and Jatiya Mohila Sangstha Bhaban by her.
She also laid the foundation stones of Sheikh Lutfar Rahman Dental College, Gopalganj Textile Engineering College, Gopalganj 10 Kilowatt FM Radio Station, Gopalganj-Kashiani-Gobra Rail Line Project, and Tungipara and Muksudpur Upazila Muktijoddha Complexes, reports BSS.
Hasina said the BNP-Jamaat conducted attacks on mosques, temples and churches when they were in power. “They even killed a Krishak League leader inside a mosque in Bogra,” she said.
Those engaged in money laundering, corruption and embezzling orphans' money cannot change common people's fate, she said.
Hasina said due to politics of revenge by the BNP-Jamaat alliance government, the southern region, particularly Gopalganj, had always been neglected for long.
“But the government of Awami League...believes in a balanced development policy,” she said. Steps were taken to set up medical universities in every division, she added.
Addressing a civic rally at Kotalipara Sheikh Lutfar Rahman Ideal Government College Ground later in the afternoon, she described the recent killings as “planned murders”, warning there was no room for terrorism in the country.
“...no terrorist would be allowed to use Bangladesh's soil...we want to establish Bangladesh as a peaceful nation,” she said. Earlier, she distributed laptops and projectors among 100 primary and 14 secondary schools under Kotalipara upazila.
Hasina said the BNP-Jamaat nexus was now killing imams of mosques, priests of temples, fathers of churches and teachers of universities alongside common people to destabilise the country.
“They have recently killed a cousin of Dipu Moni, our former foreign minister. What crimes did he do for which he was killed...was it his offence that he was a cousin of Dipu Moni?” she asked.
She urged imams and guardians to convince those engaged in wrongdoings to realise that Islam does not like killings.
“Islam is a religion of peace and tolerance. Our great Prophet (PBUH) could not like excesses in the name of religion...he also used to advise not to hurt religious sentiments,” she said.
Hasina also vowed to bring to justice those who conspired both at home and abroad to abduct and kill her son Sajib Wazed Joy in the USA, reports UNB. “The conspiracy has been proved in a US court,” she said.
Referring to a US court judgement, Hasina said an FBI official and a BNP leader have been sentenced to jail for their involvement in hatching a plot to abduct and kill Joy, also the prime minister's ICT affairs adviser.
Plots being hatched by the BNP-Jamaat clique are unlikely to stop unless the conspirators are brought to justice, Hasina said.
She accused BNP-Jamaat of creating Bangla Bhai and unleashing terrorism and militancy, saying terrorism and militancy can never bring peace.
