Greens demand integrated step
An integrated step to resolve the perennial waterlogging problem in Dhaka city has to be taken, demanded green activists at a human chain in the capital yesterday.
They said most of the city dwellers suffer from acute waterlogging every monsoon since the authorities address the problem only in posh areas like Gulshan and Banani, but do not take any planned measures to solve the problem in other areas.
Poribesh Bachao Andolon (Poba), Nagorik Odhikar Sangrakhyan Forum (NOSF) and Poribesh Unnayan Society jointly formed the human chain in front of Nagar Bhaban aiming to put pressure on the authorities concerned to take an integrated initiative to address the waterlogging problem in Dhaka city.
Poba Chairman Abu Naser Khan said when monsoon sets in, the Dhaka City Corporations and Dhaka Wasa, as service-providing institutions, take some scattered measures to address the problem.
“But, they have no coordinated effort to address the problem. Waterlogging is a common problem in all areas of Dhaka city. So, an integrated measure must be taken to solve the problem considering all the areas of the city,” he added.
