Girl dies as sawed-off tree falls on her

An eight-year-old girl was killed after a tree collapsed on her in the capital's Mirpur yesterday.

Tania Akter, 8, daughter of Alfu Mia from Kishoreganj, had migrated to their Uttar Pirerbagh residence in Mirpur three months ago.

Some men were felling a mango tree in the neighbourhood around 1:30pm, and it abruptly tumbled on her, said local people.

Tania was rushed to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor) and later shifted her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where she died  around 5:30pm, said police.
