Four held in Tolaram College student murder case
The Detective Branch of police arrested four youths in the capital's Shanir Akhra early yesterday for their alleged involvement in an undergraduate student murder case in Narayanganj.
The arrestees are: Md Yamin alias Al Amin, 23, Md Jalal, 30, Jewel, 22, and Md Robin, 28, said Sub-Inspector (DB) Mofizul Islam at a press conference at the district DB office in Khanpur yesterday.
On September 8, Shahriaz Shuvro, a third-year accounting student of Government Tolaram College of Narayanganj, coincidentally hired an auto rickshaw which the muggers used for mugging. The driver and three muggers, who were masquerading as passengers, tied up his hands and blindfolded him, brandishing a knife, Mofizul added.
When Shuvro tried to cry out, they covered his mouth with their hands and later, threw him into a roadside water body taking his mobile phone set and Tk 600, said Mofizul.
According to post-mortem, Shuvro, primary member of Bangladesh Chhatra Federation of Fatullah thana unit, was strangled.
