Four Gazipur journos attacked by gamblers
Gamblers attacked four TV journalists when they attempted to cover news over gambling at Bagher Bazar in Joydebpur of Gazipur on Monday night, prompting a mob to set fire to the illegal gambling den, said police and locals.
The injured said the attackers also snatched four video cameras, five cellphones and Tk 50,000 from them and vandalised a car of one of the journalists, said the victims.
Azaharul Haq, Al Mamun, Atikur Rahman Amin and Iqbal Ahmad Sarker -- Gazipur correspondents of Rtv, Gtv, Mohona TV and Ekattor TV respectively -- were admitted to Shaheed Taj Uddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital.
Later, they were taken to Romiza Hospital in the city.
The journalists said the miscreants attacked them with rods and sticks when they started capturing video footages.
Rezaul Hasan Reza, officer-in-charge of Joydebpur Police Station, said Atikur Rahman filed a case accusing 24 named and 7 unnamed people in connection with the incident.
