Four BCL men sent to jail
A Mymensingh court on Monday sent four members, including two leaders, of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) from Nandail upazila to jail for demanding extortion money from a police official.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Mymensingh sent them to jail after they were produced before it with a five-day remand prayer, said Kamrul Islam Miah, officer-in-charge of Nandail Police Station.
The accused are Nandail BCL's former vice president Raju, 29, its organising secretary Royal, 26, and BCL members Titu, 25, and Kamrul Hasan, 29.
The four were arrested after they allegedly went to Nandail Police Station to extort Tk 20,000 from its OC as the amount had been demanded by Nandail BCL's former secretary Wahidul Alam Faysal, claimed police.
A case was later filed against the four with the police station under Speedy Trial Act.
The Detective Branch (DB) of police in Mymensingh is investigating the case, said Ashiqur Rahman, OC of DB in Mymensingh.
