Former minister Kalparanjan Chakma passes away

Former Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs minister and Awami League leader Kalparanjan Chakma died at a Dhaka hospital on Wednesday. He was 98.

He breathed his last at Community Medical College Hospital at 12:20pm. He left behind wife, two sons and two daughters. His body was taken to Rangamati yesterday; he was cremated at Rajbana Bihara.

Kalparanjan, the first minister of the CHT affairs ministry, was elected an MP from Khagrachhari in 1996.

The prime minister expressed shock at his death and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family.
