A Dhaka court today dismissed an extortion case hours after it was filed against five people including Officer-in-Charge of Mohammadpur Police Station.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Khurshed Alam passed the order as he did not find any grounds to take it into cognizance.

The plaintiff in his complaint had alleged Md Jamaluddin, OC of Mohammadpur Police Station, through his colleagues and others demanded Tk 4.5 million from him to get back in his house after renovation.

When he declined, they beat him and threatened to lock him up in pending cases. Lastly, he was forced to pay Tk 2 lakh to the police official, according to the complaint.
