Ex CJ Khairul Haque reappointed as law commission chair

The government has reappointed former chief justice ABM Khairul Haque as chairman of the law commission for the next three years, Law Minister Anisul Huq told The Daily Star.

He said the law ministry yesterday issued a gazette notification on the reappointment of Justice Khairul Haque as law commission’s chairman and the notice has already been sent to him.

The three years' term will begin on the date of expiry of his present tenure, the law minister said.

The government had appointed Justice Khairul, who drew attention at home and abroad for some of his momentous judgements and works during his tenure as chief justice, as chairman of the law commission on July 23, 2013 for the next three years.

He joined the office July 24, 2013. His present tenure will expire on July 23 this year.

Justice Khairul will enjoy salary, allowance and other benefits equivalent to those of the chief justice as the commission chairman.

Justice Khairul worked as the 19th chief justice of Bangladesh between September 30, 2010 and May 17, 2011. During his career, he led the Appellate Division in declaring the caretaker government system illegal and unconstitutional.
