DU teachers' faction to protest 'assault' on colleague today

A faction of “Blue” panel teachers of Dhaka University will form a human chain on the campus today, protesting an alleged assault on a teacher apparently by the proctor and few other teachers.

The decision of the pro-Awami League teachers came at a meeting on Friday.

On Thursday, Proctor Prof Golam Rabbani allegedly assaulted Prof AKM Jamal Uddin of sociology at a meeting of the panel teachers at TSC.

Several Blue panel teachers, loyal to Prof Arefin Siddique, alleged that the proctor was delivering a “provocative” speech about the former VC and was hurling abuses at some other panel teachers.

However, some of the panel teachers, loyal to the incumbent VC, alleged that Prof Jamal hurled abuses at the proctor and assaulted him.

On Friday, Proctor Rabbani issued a rejoinder, saying that Prof Jamal assaulted him at the meeting.
